Harrison Weir was the humble street cat and by the exhaustive breeding program Transformed it into a pedigreed breed that he named the British. They fell in love with this new breed. During The 2nd World War, As In The 1st World War, the British Shorthair Cat was killed vastly but it always came in the top ranking to popularity. Today British Shorthair Cats are registered worldwide. At One Time, The Cat was known as British Blue but later on, it came in the variety of colors. They are Called either British or British Shorthair. 
 
It Was Recognized in 1967 By American Cat Association but it did not accept until 1980 by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_Fanciers%27_Association">Cat Fanciers Association</a>. Now A Days All The Cat Associations Recognize and Accept This Breed.
